Lilly’s Mountain Escape is a corner unit with two wraparound decks that feature a hot tub and a gas grill. Take an easy stroll to the campus of Lees-McRae College and downtown Banner Elk’s top-notch restaurants and shops. And since it started to downpour and I was in no hurry to leave in the heavy rain, she allowed me to observe her making soap, something I've always been so curious about, and I now know more about soapmaking than I ever thought I would! It felt like spending the afternoon with a close friend, she made it feel like a home away from home. Make memories in the middle of it all at this chic three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom townhouse. Charlotte was BEYOND helpful and inviting and shared so much more about candle-making and was kind enough to let me pour a candle even though it was not a class-day - simply because it was my birthday!! We had a delightful time laughing and joking, chit-chatting and sharing life stories. Even scents that guarantee a headache for me did not! I was floored!! They have a wide selection of all kinds of gentle scents, from floral, to musk, to sweet, you name it! I got six candles because I simply loved them all, whereas most places I only find maybe one or two I enjoy. I am a big fan of local, handmade candles and soaps and this place was close by and one of the few open on a Sunday, so I decided drop in and I am SO glad I did!! To say that my experience was the highlight of my day is an understatement! Upon walking into the charming cabin with a gorgeous waterwheel outside, I was enamored with the selection and felt like a kid in a candy store! I am quite sensitive to scents and never in my life have I been able to smell and enjoy /every/ candle without getting a headache. The ride down is thrilling, with the two-seater sleds hitting top speeds of 27 miles per hour as they twist and turn down the nearly 2,400-foot run. It was my birthday, and in keeping with my desire to have a relaxing, easy-going birthday, I knew I wanted to find a local artisanal shop of some sort nearby to explore. Ramping up the adventure and excitement levels near Banner Elk is the new Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster, one of only 20 coasters of this design in the United States. experience one to remember! I never leave reviews but todays experience was beyond special. Charlotte was a DELIGHT and truly made my Banner Elk Soap & Candle Co.
